Biking 48km with wine for the thirst

In Beaune we stayed at a Bed and Breakfast with this cute old woman who gave us jugs of hot chocolate and what I'm guessing was homemade jelly. We bought a picnic lunch and then headed to the bike rental for him to tell us that it doesn't open until April. Luckily putting on the puppy dog faces and begging in French worked and by noon we were off on our bikes with bells and baskets along the ramparts around the city. We got a bit lost trying to find the way to the vinyards, but after our half hour detour we were in the countryside amognst the vinyard sticks and the purple flowers that are already starting to sprout up. We had our picnic at the Hameau de Blagny, advice taken from the bike store man, with a view of the vinyards and town below. And then we continued on to our final stop Santenay (we decided to start at the end and backtrack to the vinyards if we were going to drink and try to ride a bike on hills). Being that it was Sunday most vinyards were closed though, so we only ended up going to Santenay and Chassagne-Montrachet, before having to ride quickly back uphill and into the wind to catch our train. My legs were fine but now it hurts a bit to sit after seven hours on that bike seat.
