Un jour à Vienne
I don't know what has been wrong with Blogger lately but I have spent hours trying to post for it to tell me it doesn't work...frustrating. Anyways I had a wonderful weekend, taking my friends up on the offer to head to Vienne, just South of Lyon for Saturday (with Vicky and Ed-England, Dave-New Zealand, Josh-California, and Usgould-Austria...actually from Vienna). It was a gorgeous day, maybe in the sixties, and we did a walking tour of the Roman ruins (la pyramide, l'amphithéàtre, le musée Gallo-Romain, etc). We also shared a Chinese lunch of four main dishes and some hors d'oeuvres and trekked up the hill Belvedère de Pipet to see a quaint church and its panoramic view of the city situated on the valley of the Rhone river. The cherry blossom trees in bloom (one of my favorites besides lilacs and willows) and walking with no coat on amongst original Roman pillars, roads, and canals made me feel worlds away from Michigan. I was really impressed by the Roman artwork, living in lavish homes decorated with mosaic tiles. I realized archeologists must really like puzzles to have figured out the configurations of all of this ancient artwork.
