One Day: 4 towns and 2 countries
Probably the craziest day ever: woke up at 6am to take a train to Chambéry (about 10min away) for it to be too early for the stores or even the tourism office to be open for a map. Walked around and found the hot spots and some breakfast in a café where the man sent his son to the nearby baker for our croissants. Kathy got disappointed because there were no souvenir shops anywhere for her to buy a shotglass in a frequented the train station stores for postcards. Then we headed off to Annecy since I knew it was a gorgeous place to see and there are no mountains in the other cities we went to (except when we accidentally took the train to Grenoble and not Aix...two trains leaving for the same direction both at 12:19, long story). The lake and mountains were gorgeous once again but it was so sunny there was a fog over the lake, I guess from the reflection of the mountain snow, I don't know. So we had paninis and ice cream and went back on the train to Aix for our "massages Californiens" at 3. That was a surprise being that I had never had a massage and the woman ended up knowing my body quite well since it turned out to be completely nude! Then Kathy wanted to hop over to Geneva, Switzerland for dinner, which in a direct train is fine because its an hour and a half but the train ride back took four hours because we had to change trains twice (to get back at 11:30pm). And once there we didn't even get to see the city because we had an hour and a half to find somewhere to eat and get back on the train and Kathy hurt her feet on the steps so she couldn't get around, and we didn't have swiss francs for the bus. Needless to say we were exhausted by the end of the day, and the next morning had to get up early again for our train to Paris.
