Who needs a car?
I went with the German assistants, Marie-Louise and Bastienne for a hike and a picnic in the "enchanted forest" last Sunday. We took a bus to Le Bessat (the top of the hill past Rochetaillée) and then crossed the hills using Marie-Louise randonnée path map. We went all the way down to the valleys and drank from the rivers and then hiked up the steepest incline ever to get to the tops, which the gorgeous views made it worth it even if my legs didn't think so. It was the best picnic I've ever had of roasted chicken, sausage, baguette, French cheese, and cookies. I'll never forget the sheep's deep baa, seeing the Planetarium a second time which meant we went the wrong way up the hill, seeing the Planetarium as a dot after crossing the hills so far, and the wonderful time I had getting to know Basti and Marie-Louise without needing a word of English. I'm glad they didn't tell me I would be walking 20km because I wouldn't have believed I could do it, but when you have such things to see you don't realize how far you've gone.
