Beginning of Spring Break: Antibes
At the beginning of yet another school vacation I headed with my girls Heather, Kirsty, and Laura to Antibes in the South of France to celebrate Heather's birthday and so she could meet her mom in Nice before flying home. It was sad realizing it was my final days with Kirsty as she wasn't coming back after break. Since all of my lucky British friends got to go home during break they had suitcases filled to the brim so we got a taxi to the hostel about 4km from the station only to find the hstel wouldn't be open until 5:30pm! It was raining which I thought it never does in Provence so we had nothing to do and nowhere to leave our bags to go eat. We found an open closet in the hostel's basement and then headed off to find food which we were in the middle of nowhere and had to eat at this really posh restaurant on the water. It was pouring by the time we left so we went into the basement and were drying our clothes on the radiators and wearing pajama pants when an angry old man with an Italian accent ran in asking how we got in there. We explained that we had reservations and he lightened up and after that his sense of humor was quite funny that Paolo. Since the hostel was in BFE we took the last bus into the city at 7pm and went wine tasting and such and then got a taxi back. One of the girls dropped a coin in the seat cushion and the taxi driver pulled a knife out of the glove box and told her to try and get it out with that...needless to say after that us four girls had trouble sleeping alone in a dark basement with no lock on the door. The next day it was still cloudy but we saw some of Antibes; the market and the port before heading back and spending a girlie night in the hostel talking. When Laura and Kirsty had to leave early the next morning it was slight confusion as different taxi drivers called to confirm who was picking them up for the airport and then it was sad to see them go off into the sunrise. But that meant it woulf dinally be a sunny day and Heather and I still had the day to spend in Nice.
