A Weekend in Budapest
My last weekend left and I headed off to Geneva to see Aaron's friend John in Budapest. It was all a bit too easy; teaching and catching my train, checking in and getting through security in ten minutes, staying with John in the very center of Budapest within walking distance of everything. To be honest, when I first bought the flight I knew what region of the world it was in but not specifically what country. So besides it being a wonderful city, I think breaking preconceived notions was the best part of the weekend excursion. I was lucky that John has been there since the summer and could help me get around, though, because I couldn't even remember how to say yes and no in Hungarian, which always makes me feel guilty being in a country and not speaking the language. But the weather was beautiful and I just saw the city in the two days, mostly on foot but a bit by trolley. The churches were so ornate and I loved how many parks there were around the city. I didn't realize until now being home how much more fulfilling life seems when daily essentials and beautiful things are within walking distance.
